split.room started with a familiar problem: one roommate quietly covering groceries, Wi-Fi, and the electric bill while everyone else meant to pay them back. We built a neutral ledger where every expense is visible, every change is on the record, and disagreements are settled by consent instead of whoever argues loudest.

Frequently asked questions
Is split.room really free?
Yes. Households with up to 4 roommates are free forever. Extra roommates and the formal signed agreement download are optional one-time $1.99 add-ons.
Does split.room move money between roommates?
No. We keep the record of who paid what and who owes whom. You settle up however your household prefers, then mark it paid.
What happens when a roommate moves out?
Their past entries stay on the ledger so balances remain accurate. They lose access to the household, and the remaining roommates can re-split rent with the new shares.
Can one roommate secretly edit or delete a bill?
No. Every change is timestamped in the audit trail, and removing an entry requires a vote from the household.
Is the roommate agreement legally binding?
It is a signed record of what your household agreed to, which helps a lot in disagreements. Enforceability depends on where you live, and it never replaces your lease.
Who can see my receipts?
Roommates in your household can see receipts you log to the shared ledger. Your password, billing details, and secondary email stay private.
How do I delete my data?
Go to Settings, then Account & security. You can download a copy of your data or permanently delete your account in one click.
